Important Information about your MyFibre NBN Connection

Some fairly significant changes with your NBN service this month - March 2017

We are switching over to an authenticated connection type, which means that you will need to make a couple of changes in your device which is connected to the NBN NTD.

Once you have made those changes you can swap your data connection over to the next UNID port.

Read on for more information about setting up for specific connection types.

If you experience any problems with your NBN service over the next few weeks, please contact Mike directly on

nbnTM will supply you with various items of hardware in order to connect.

In addition we will also supply you with a further item of hardware which you may choose to use.

The actual hardware supplied depends on your connection type & telephone service type (if applicable)

nbnTM will supply an antenna on your building, plus a Network Connection Device inside.

You will NOT be supplied with a Power Supply (Battery Backup Unit) - this means that if you have no mains power, your telephone service via the nbnTM connection WILL NOT WORK. You will not be able to make or receive calls, including calls to any emergency service numbers if you have no mains power.

nbnTM will supply a Premises Connection Device on the outside of your building

& a Network Connection Device inside.

The ability to make or receive any calls during a power failure including calls to an emergency services number depends on whether a battery back up power supply unit is supplied.

If you have ordered a telephone connection on any of our Basic, Extra or Super plans, (UNIV ports) you will also be supplied with a Power Supply (Battery Backup Unit) - this means that if you have a mains power failure you will be able to use the telephone service for a few hours until the battery goes flat. Please note that the Power Supply / Battery Back up Unit will not supply mains power to your handset, router or other hardware. You will require an unpowered handset to be able to make & receive calls, including to emergency service numbers, during a mains failure.

If you have ordered one of our Digital Telephone services - Digital Phone, Digital Extra Phone or Digital Super Phone, you will NOT be supplied with a Power Supply (Battery Backup Unit) - this means that if you have a mains power failure you will NOT be able to use the telephone service at all. You will not be able to make or receive calls, including calls to any emergency service numbers if you have no mains power.

Choosing Your Service Type

It is important to correctly choose the service type that you need.

The service type effects the performance of your services, in particular in the event of a mains power failure.

Connection to nbnTM Type.

This is determined by the nbnTM. You may be located in an area which has nbnTM services provided by Fixed Wireless or you may be located in an area which has nbnTM services provided by Optical Fibre.

fixedwireless-iconIf you are connected by Fixed Wireless, you will NOT be supplied with a Battery Back up Power Supply unit.
If you are connected by Fixed Wireless you can choose from three telephone connection types.
traditional copper network
via the Data connction of your nbnTM Service
No Phone service at all

If your phone service is provided over the nbnTM Data connection you will have NO PHONE SERVICE in the event of a mains power failure.  You will not be able to make or receive calls, including calls to any emergency service numbers if you have no mains power.
(you won't have a data connection either)

fixedline-iconIf you are connected by Optical Fibre, you can choose from three different phone connection types.

Via the UNIV port
over the nbnTM Data connection
or no phone at all.

You WILL be supplied with a Battery Backup Power Supply unit if you choose to have your phone service via the UNIV port.  This means that for a number of hours after a mains power failure your telephone service will continue to work. (NOTE obviously you must have a phone handset that does itself not require mains power) You must maintain the battery in the Battery Backup / power supply unit yourself.

You will NOT be supplied with a Battery Backup Power Supply unit if you choose to have your phone connection over the nbnTM Data connection or to have no phone at all. This means that, should you have a mains power failure you will have no telephone service. You will not be able to make or receive calls, including calls to any emergency service numbers if you have no mains power.

Telephone services are especially important if you have a medical alarm/ alert system, or a back to base burglar alarm.

This table summarises the provision of the Battery Back up/ Power Supply Unit
